Annie never judged a person's worth by their circumstances — she judged their effort and their heart. These requirements reflect those same values.
Academic Standing
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.3 and be currently enrolled or accepted at Alabama A&M University or Oakwood University.
Financial Need
Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship in their essay. Annie understood what it meant to have dreams and limited means — so do we.
Community Involvement
Volunteer and community service activities are considered. Annie gave tirelessly to others — we look for that same spirit of service in our scholars.
Purpose & Direction
Applicants must share their declared major, why they chose it, their future goals, and where they are from. Annie always wanted to know where people were headed — not just where they had been.
What Your Essay Should Cover
Your essay is your voice. Annie believed in hearing people's stories — so tell us yours. Your essay should address all of the following areas. There is no required length, but be honest, specific, and speak from the heart.
Financial Hardship
Describe your financial situation and how it has impacted your educational journey. Be specific — this helps us understand what a scholarship would truly mean for you.
Your Major & Why You Chose It
Tell us what you're studying and the story behind that choice. Was it a calling? A person who inspired you? A problem you want to solve?
Your Future Goals
Where are you going? What do you want to build, create, lead, or serve? Tell us how you plan to make a meaningful impact.
Volunteer & Community Service
Describe any volunteer work or community involvement. Annie gave everything to her community — we honor that spirit. This is not required, but it is meaningful to us.
Where You Are From
Tell us about your hometown and background. Annie was from Prattville, Alabama — a small town with a big story. We want to know yours.
